Telecommunications: Madrid has new rules on mobile phone masts
Saturday, May 8th 2010The installation of new mobile phone masts and other telecommunications equipment will be strictly limited under tough new rules implemented by Madrid’s city council on health and safety grounds.
Although any link between communications equipment and ill health has yet to be proved the council said in a statement that it was acting in the best interests of its citizens.
The new legislation, which covers all aspects of telecommunications, will limit the size and number of antennas and aim to eliminate cables that cross between buildings. The new law also allows for the extension of the city’s free Wi-Fi network.
